Finland in the world media 2022

The annual report provides an overview of the themes and content related to Finland that made headlines in the international media in the past year. The report combines observations by Finland’s missions and embassies on the media coverage with the results of quantitative media monitoring.

In 2022, the application for NATO membership and Russia’s war against Ukraine significantly increased Finland’s total visibility. Other topics that were widely covered include the Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin and success both in ice hockey and cross-country skiing. Finland was also ranked as the happiest country in the world in the World Happiness Report for fifth time in a row.
